Sweden’s Shakespeare?

Received an intriguing invitation from a singing friend (good singer, too): a concert of music and poetry by Carl Michael Bellman, 18C Swedish poet and composer. Brett says:

This concert introduces the life and music of Carl Michael Bellman, the most influential poet of all time in Sweden. Bellman was not only a poet and composer, but also an extraordinary performer, well known for his ability to improvise and impersonate. His poetry ranges from the silly to the sublime and captures life in 18th-century Sweden in a unique way.

It’s at Columbia’s Deutches Haus, 420 W 116, at 7 on Weds., Feb. 25, there’s a reception afterwards, AND it’s free. Along with Brett, singing, there will be bass, violin, lute, and piano.
