Brooklyn Shapenote, Sunday, September 14

Second Sunday singing at St. Paul’s Church in Carroll Gardens, 199 Carroll Street (near Clinton), in the Parish House, 2 to 5:30 with potluck following. Brenda reminds us it’s the last local opportunity to practice up for next week’s big events. Nearest subway: F to Carroll Street. Extensive directions after the jump:

By subway: F Train to Carroll St (fourth stop in Brooklyn from
Manhattan). Exit at front of train. Don’t cross Smith Street and walk back
1½ blocks to Carroll Street. Walk left/west on Carroll, alongside the
park/playground, crossing Court Street, 1½ blocks to the side courtyard
entrance behind the church at 199 Carroll Street which will be before you
get to Clinton Street.

By bus: B75 to Court Street & 1st Place; walk 1 block toward the BQE, then
right 1½ blocks to the gate.
— B71 to Union & Clinton Streets; with the BQE on your right,
walk almost 2 blocks to the gate.

By car: From the Brooklyn Battery (toll) Tunnel, use a right-hand toll lane
and take the next-to-the-right lane after the tolls and take the “Exit Only”
lane for Exit 26, Hamilton Avenue. Stay/bear left down the exit ramp and go
left under the highway. Stay to the right of the supports that divide the
road(!) and get in the middle lane where you will be facing/about to cross
Hamilton Avenue. Clinton Street is diagonally to your left, between
Hamilton on the hard left and Huntington to the right. Go into Clinton
street and continue on Clinton through 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st Places to Carroll Street. Turn right, where you will see the churchyard entrance and usually find a parking place
available.

From the Brooklyn, Williamsburg or Manhattan Bridges, Queens, or Long
Island, head S/W on the Brooklyn/Queens Expressway (BQE/278), towards the
Verrazano Bridge. Stay in the center lane until Exit 26 to avoid getting
caught up in the left and right exits-only. It is then the exact same exit
and procedure as above because the BQE merges with the tunnel exit and the
Gowanus Expressway just before that point.
