It looks as though I’ll be singing shapenote pretty much the entire freaking day, but there’s quite a lineup for the Brooklyn Book Festival in downtown Brooklyn on Sunday. I almost don’t want to start pulling out names, but here are a few that caught my attention: John Wray with Adrien Tomine at noon; Esther Smith on making books; mysterious references to “John Reed’s new book by Shakespeare;” and a likely hot ticket, Philip Lopate, Andrew Sean Greer, Lore Segal, and Kate Christensen together. (I loved Christensen’s Epicure’s Lament) (but see also Russell Banks with Jonathan Franzen, or Pete Hamill with Jimmy Breslin for old-time Bklyn flavor, or or or). Ten stages! Dozens of writers & performers!
