But, and this is really interesting, here‘s an explanation for the four notes FA SO LA MI as the remnant of overlapping medieval hexachords. Sounds plausible. Thanks, Ishmael, whoever you are. (Someone asked about the derivation of fasola tonight at our singing. I have never seen the explanation taken so far back.)
